ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team Release
Mara Hjelle and Julie Ann Wagner of Wayne State College were selected today to the EPSN The Magazine Academic All-District VII College Team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Hjelle was a First Team selection and now advances to the Academic All-American ballot while Wagner received Third Team All-District honors.
Hjelle, a 6-2 junior center from White Bear Lake, Minnesota, carries a 3.92 grade point average majoring in counseling. On the court, Hjelle is averaging 13.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game for the Wildcats this season with seven double-doubles. She ranks fourth in the NSIC in rebounds and leads the league in offensive rebounds per game (3.89) and is third in blocked shots at 1.39 per game.
Wagner, a 5-11 junior forward from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, maintains a stellar 3.95 grade point average majoring in political science. She is averaging 4.9 points and 3.4 rebounds per game for the Wildcats this season, shooting 50 percent (35 of 69) from the field and 73 percent (11 of 15) from the free throw line as a top reserve for WSC.
Wayne State is 16-4 on the season and tied for third in the Northern Sun Conference with a 9-4 league mark. The Wildcats will host NSIC co-leader Augustana College Saturday at 4 p.m. at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.
