NSIC Women's Basketball Release 2/8/10
Ashley Arlen of Wayne State College was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week announced Monday morning by the league office in St. Paul, Minnesota following her play in Saturday night's 75-46 home rout of Augustana College. It's the second straight week and third time this season she has received the honor from the NSIC. Arlen also received the Nebraska NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second straight week and third time on the season Monday afternoon.
Arlen, a 6-2 sophomore forward from Cascade, Iowa, scored 32 points to go with a career-high 14 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season to boost Wayne State Saturday night against the Vikings. She had 20 points and 10 rebounds already at halftime as the Wildcats raced out to a 43-19 halftime lead against Augustana. She finished the game 10 of 17 from the field, 3 of 5 from the three point line and 9 of 12 from the free throw stripe in just 30 minutes of playing time. During the Wildcats' current six-game win streak, Arlen is averaging 23.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, shooting 53.7 percent (51 of 95) from the field and 80.5 percent (33 of 41) at the free throw line. Arlen now has nine games of 20 or more points this season with three of those games scoring 30 or more points.
For the season, Arlen is now averaging 19.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for the Wildcats this season. She ranks second in the league in scoring and is 10th in rebounding. Arlen is shooting 49 percent from the field and 72 percent at the free throw line. Wayne State is 17-4 overall and 10-4 in the NSIC, tied for second place with Augustana and just one game back of first place Concordia-St. Paul. Wayne State, 11-0 at Rice Auditorium, will be at home again this weekend, hosting Winona State Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and Upper Iowa Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
