WBCA State Coaches' All-America Team Finalists release
Ashley Arlen of Wayne State College has been named a finalist for the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) State Farm Coaches' All-America Team. The sophomore forward is one of 40 finalists from across the country as voted on by WBCA member coaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions and is now in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team that will be announced on Monday, March 22 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Arlen, a 6-2 sophomore forward from Cascade, Iowa, leads Wayne State in scoring at 19.5 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds a contest. She ranks second in the NSIC in scoring, ninth in rebounding and sixth in blocked shots per game (1.07). Arlen has nine double-doubles on the season and has scored in double figures in 28 of the 30 games. She was a three-time NSIC Player of the Week this season and was named to the NSIC All-Tournament Team after setting a new three-game scoring record with 73 points in helping WSC win the 2010 NSIC Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament.
Wayne State is 26-4 on the season and winners of 15 straight games heading into this weekend's NCAA Division II Central Regional Tournament in Durango, Colorado. The Wildcats are the #2 seed and face #7 seed CSU-Pueblo (20-10) in the opening game of the tournament on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Central Time.
