Vance Butler Invitational Final Results

                The Wayne State College outdoor track and field teams opened the 2010 outdoor season Thursday night at the Vance Butler Invitational hosted by Augustana College at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.  The Wildcat men's team recorded one win on the night.  WSC was one of 12 teams competing in the meet, joining Augustana, Briar Cliff, Concordia-St. Paul, Dakota State, Dakota Wesleyan, Dordt College, Minnesota State, Morningside, Mount Marty, Northwestern and the University of Sioux Falls.

                For the Wayne State men, senior thrower Jacob Mathieson scored the lone win for the Wildcats taking first in the hammer throw with a mark of 161' 5”.  Senior distance runner Nate Preston posted a second place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:35.32) while Alex Timperley notched a second place finish in the triple jump at 46' 0”.  Lucas Sirek was third in the triple jump (44' 7”) while Cody Diehl was fourth in the javelin (149' 10”) and Drew Molacek took fourth in the 200 meter dash (22.32).  Fifth place finishes included Andrew O'Neill in the 110 meter high hurdles (16.60) and Andrew Jansen was fifth in the 400 meter dash in 49.51 seconds. 

                The next meet for Wayne State will be Saturday, April 10^th when the Wildcats compete at the University of Nebraska Invitational in Lincoln.
