Wayne State's Joe Wendte named NSIC Baseball Player of the Week

NSIC Weekly Baseball Release April 19, 2010

             Joe Wendte of Wayne State College was selected the Northern Sun Conference Baseball Player of the Week Monday afternoon by the conference office in St. Paul, Minnesota.  It's the first time this season that any Wildcat baseball player has received the weekly honor as the league's top player.
              Wendte hit .609 in seven games last week, going 14 for 23 at the plate with four homers and 12 RBI's while scoring 17 runs with 11 walks from his leadoff position. Wendte finished the week with an astounding 1.304 slugging percentage while extending his hit streak to nine straight games. Wendte was 4 for 6 with two homers, a double and five RBI's vs. Briar Cliff Tuesday, was 3 for 5 with one homer, five RBI's and four walks in Wednesday's sweep at Augustana and in this weekend's four game series vs. Northern State was 7 for 12 with a homer, two doubles, six walks and 10 runs scored.           

            For the season, Wendte is second on Wayne State with a .405 average,  Wendte is hitting .453 in conference play so far this season.  He has 11 homers and 31 RBI's and is third in the NSIC in home runs (11) and runs scored (51). 

            Wayne State College is 20-15 overall and 15-4 in the NSIC. The Wildcats' will host St. Cloud State in an NSIC double header Wednesday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne.
