4/6/2010 11:50:42 AM

Wayne State College head women's basketball coach Chris Kielsmeier was honored at the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Final Four in San Antonio, Texas over the weekend as a recipient of the Russell Athletic/WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Victory Club Award for his 200th career victory during the season.  The Russell Athletic/WBCA Victory Club Award is presented each year to a WBCA-member head coach who achieves career wins of 200, 300, 400, 500 or more in 100-victory increments.

Kielsmeier earned his 200th career win on December 4th in a 64-42 win over Northern State and sports a 220-62 record in his 10 seasons as a head coach, including a 41-18 mark in his two seasons as head coach at Wayne State.  He was named the 2010 NSIC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year after leading Wayne State to a 16-4 record in the NSIC, tied for second after predicted for a seventh place finish in the NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll.  Wayne State went on to win the 2010 NSIC Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament and finished with a 26-5 record after falling to CSU-Pueblo in the first round of the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament in Durango, Colorado. WSC also finished 15-0 at home this season, marking just the second time in school history that a Wildcat women's basketball team went unbeaten at home.
