Wayne State College landed three players on the ABCA/Rawlings (Coaches) and Daktronics (Sports Information Directors) All-Central Region Teams released Thursday afternoon. Senior outfielder Joe Wendte was a repeat selection earning First Team All-Central Region honors from both organizations and is now eligible for All-American honors. Junior second baseman Nick Bidroski was First Team All-Central Region from ABCA/Rawlings and Second Team by Daktronics while sophomore pitcher Austen Wisroth was voted to the Daktronics All-Central Region Second Team. Wayne State senior catcher John Plasha was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings Central Region Gold Glove Team.
Wendte, from South Sioux City, Nebraska (Sioux City Heelan HS), hit .416 for the Wildcats this season with 11 homers and 41 runs batted in. He led the NSIC in walks (40) and was second in on-base percentage (.538). Wendte also tied for fifth in runs scored (68) and ranked eighth in batting average and ninth in slugging percentage (.697). Wendte was the NSIC Freshman of the Year in 2007 and was named First Team All-NSIC the last three seasons. He was named the 2009 NSIC Player of the Year and was a Second Team ABCA/Rawlings All-American last season as a junior.
Bidroski, a graduate of Omaha Roncalli Catholic High School, led Wayne State in batting this season with a .420 average, accounting for seven homers and a team-high 48 RBI's. He led the Northern Sun Conference in on-base percentage this season (.546) and tied for first in doubles with 23 while also ranking seventh in batting average (.420) and eighth in slugging percentage (.701). Bidroski also had a team high 19-game hitting streak during the season.
Wisroth, a graduate of Torrington High School in Wyoming, was 5-4 record in 11 starts this season with a 3.69 ERA. He had three complete games with one shutout while striking out 76 batters in just 63.1 innings of work. His 10.80 strikeouts per nine innings ranked first in the NSIC overall and his two home runs allowed tied for fewest homers allowed by an NSIC pitcher this season. Wisroth also ranked tied for third in runs allowed (31), fourth in strikeouts (76) and ninth in earned run average.
Plasha, from Media, Pennsylvania, had just one error this season with a .997 fielding percentage for the Wildcats at catcher to earn NSIC Gold Glove honors. At the plate, Plasha hit .290 with three homers, 10 doubles and 36 runs batted in.
Wayne State finished the 2010 season 26-23 overall and 21-10 in the Northern Sun Conference to finish sixth in league play.
