2010 NSIC All-Conference Baseball Release

            Wayne
State College landed three players on the 2010 NSIC All-Conference Baseball Team announced Thursday morning by the league office in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Senior outfielder Joe Wendte, junior second baseman Nick Bidroski and sophomore pitcher Austen Wisroth each received First Team All-NSIC honors while Bidroski and senior catcher John Plasha were also named to the 2010 NSIC Gold Glove Team. 

            Wendte, from South Sioux City, Nebraska (Sioux City Heelan HS), hit .458 in conference play this season with seven homers and 28 RBI's in 31 league games.  He led the league in conference play with a .603 on-base percentage and in walks with 34 while ranking third in runs scored (50) and fifth in average at .458.  Overall, Wendte leads Wayne State in batting with a .420 average and has 11 homers and 39 RBI's on the season.  He leads the NSIC in overall games in walks with 39 and is second in on-base percentage at .544.  Wendte was the NSIC Freshman of the Year in 2007 and was named First Team All-NSIC the last three seasons.  He was named the 2009 NSIC Player of the Year and was a Second Team ABCA/Rawlings All-American last season as a junior.

            Bidroski, a graduate of Omaha Roncalli Catholic High School, hit .387 in league play this season with four homers, 36 RBI's and a league-best 16 doubles.  Bidroski had a team-high 19 game hitting streak during the season and overall hit .416 with seven homers and a team-high 48 RBI's for the Wildcats.  In all games played, he leads the NSIC in doubles (23) and on-base percentage (.548) while ranking ninth in batting average (.416) and slugging percentage (.711).

            Wisroth, a graduate of Torrington High School in Wyoming, was 4-1 in seven league starts with three complete games and 2.92 ERA for the Wildcats.  His ERA was third best in NSIC play and his 48 strikeouts against NSIC teams tied for second.  He allowed the fewest runs (15) and earned runs (13) in NSIC play and was one of only two pitchers to not allow a home run in league play.  Overall, Wisroth posted a 5-3 record in 10 starts this season with a team-best 3.00 ERA.  He had three complete games with one shutout while striking out 69 batters in just 57 innings of work.  His 10.89 strikeouts per nine innings ranked first in the NSIC overall and he also led the NSIC in fewest runs allowed (24), earned runs (19) and home runs allowed (1) in all games played.

            Plasha, from Media, Pennsylvania, had just one error this season with a .996 fielding percentage for the Wildcats at catcher to earn NSIC Gold Glove honors while Bidroski ranked second on the Wildcats defensively with 105 assists to earn Gold Glove honors.

            Wayne State is 26-22 overall and was 21-10 in the Northern Sun Conference this season to finish sixth in league play.
