WBCA Top 25 Academic Honor Roll Release

            For the second straight season, the Wayne State College women's basketball team has been selected to the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Top 25 Team Honor Roll for the 2009-10 season.  The Wildcats ranked 18th in NCAA Division II with a team cumulative grade point average of 3.454.  Wayne State College was the highest ranked Northern Sun Conference team listed in the top 25 teams that made the honor roll.
            The award, released on Tuesday, July 20, is given in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community Colleges, honors teams throughout the nation that carry the highest grade point averages for the entire season based on nominations submitted by WBCA-member head coaches.

           
Michigan Tech posted the highest team grade point average in NCAA Division II for the 2009-10 season with a 3.732 followed by Chadron State at 3.641 and Rockhurst University at 3.635.  Wayne State was one of just two schools from the Northern Sun Conference to make the top 25 team honor roll, posting the league's best team grade point average with a 3.454 to rank 18th nationally.  Winona State was the only other NSIC school listed in the top 25 coming in at 20th with a 3.446.  Chris Kielsmeier's 2008-09 team ranked 14th in NCAA Division II with a 3.473 team grade point average.
            Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the 14-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.  The Wildcats finished the 2009-10 season with a 26-5 record, winning the 2010 NSIC Sanford Health Tournament to advance to the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the third time in the last five seasons.  WSC loses just one senior off the 2009-10 team.
