NCAA postgraduate fall sports womens award winners

Jennifer Hefner of Wayne State College has been awarded a postgraduate scholarship of $7,500 from the NCAA.  The senior volleyball player from Archer, Nebraska (Central City HS) is one of just 29 female student-athletes from Division I, II and III to receive the prestigious honor.  The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

Hefner, who carries a stellar 3.93 grade point average majoring in applied human and sport physiology, became the first athlete in Wayne State history to earn back-to-back First Team Academic All-American honors while also earning All-American honors on the court receiving Second Team AVCA All-American recognition as a junior and senior for the Wildcats.

The one-time grants of $7,500 each are awarded for fall sports, winter sports and spring sports.  Each sports season (fall, winter and spring) there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women.  The scholarships are one-time, non-renewable grants.  Hefner has been accepted into Creighton University's program for the Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program.

Hefner was a First Team All-Northern Sun Conference selection for a third straight season this past season and finished her Wildcat career with 1,540 kills to rank fourth on the all-time list.  She helped Wayne State College to a 26-4 record and a #9 national ranking for the Wildcats, the highest-ever national ranking to end the season in WSC volleyball history.

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage postgraduate education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports.  Athletics and academic achievements, as well as campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership, are evaluated.
