Wayne State College Director of Athletics Mike Powicki announced this afternoon that Wildcat head baseball coach Brian Disch has resigned his position, effective June 30, to take a mathematics teaching job at Norfolk High School.
            "We are very thankful for Coach Disch and his years of commitment to the Wildcat baseball program," said Powicki.  "For almost 15 years, he has been a member of this program and has been a big part of the great tradition of Wayne State baseball and we wish he and his family the best.  As an alum, Brian will always have another home here at Wayne State College."
            Disch, who resides in Norfolk, has been a player, assistant coach and head coach with the Wildcat baseball program for 15 years while helping build a program that has had 17 straight winning seasons.  In five years as a head coach, Disch compiled a 138-104 overall record while going 98-56 in the NSIC.  This season, Wayne State was 27-24 overall and finished eighth in the NSIC with an 18-15 league mark.  Under Disch, the Wildcats have excelled in pitching and defense with WSC ranking second in the NSIC and seventh in NCAA Division II in strikeouts per nine innings (8.4) while ranking second in the league and 15^th nationally in shutouts this season with seven.
            Prior to being named head coach, Disch served as hitting coach for five seasons at WSC from 2005-09.  During that time, the Wildcats captured five straight NSIC regular season titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament each season while advancing to the Central Regional final in 2009.
            As a player, Disch was a standout with the Wildcat program from 1999-2004.  He earned First Team All-NSIC honors as a senior in 2004, hitting .301 with 11 homers and 38 RBI's and was named Most Valuable Player of the 2004 NSIC Tournament after helping WSC win the tournament title. 
            "It is very difficult for me to leave as my experiences here have turned me into the person I am today," remarked Disch.  "I am leaving to have the opportunity to spend more time with my wife and kids and I will continue to follow and support Wayne State College and the baseball program."
            Disch added, "I want to thank President Curt Frye, Athletic Director Mike Powicki and Wayne State College for giving me the opportunity to be the head baseball coach.  I have been fortunate enough to develop life-long relationships with coaches, administration, players, parents and alumni while being involved with the baseball program for 15 years.  I would also like to thank Coach Manganaro for giving me the opportunity to play and coach at Wayne State along with the Gardner Foundation who continues to support Wayne State and the baseball program."
            The Wayne State College Athletic Department will soon determine and announce the process for filling the vacant Head Baseball Coach position.
