The 8th-ranked Wayne State College volleyball team will battle #3 Southwest Minnesota Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Central Regional Tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota. It's the 11th NCAA appearance for the Wildcats in the last 12 years, who are 24-7 overall, while SMSU enters the NCAA Tournament with a record of 26-5. Last season, WSC was also the #7 seed entering the Central Regional and knocked off three top 10 teams to win the schools' first-ever NCAA region championship and advanced to the NCAA Final Four.
SMSU and WSC have met twice this season with the Mustangs winning in Wayne on September 17th 25-21, 25-17, 25-23 followed by a 25-12, 28-26, 25-21 win in the NSIC Tournament semifinals in St. Paul on November 19th. WSC is 2-0 all-time against SMSU in the NCAA Tournament, including a 3-1 win over the Mustangs last year in the NCAA Central Regional semifinals.
