Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's Track/Cross Country Team Release
Derek Lahm of Wayne State College was named Tuesday morning to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District VII First Team for Men's Track/Cross Country. The award is selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. It's the third time in his Wildcat career (2015, 2017) that Lahm has collected First Team Academic All-District honors.
Lahm, a senior from Columbus (Scotus Catholic HS), carries a 3.92 grade point average majoring in chemistry and health science.
During the indoor season, Lahm was the NSIC champion in the long jump (23' 8 ½") and also earned All-NSIC honors with a second place finish in the heptathlon at 5,063 points.
In the outdoor season, Lahm was a national qualifier in the decathlon after setting a new school record winning the NSIC title with 6,951 points. He also set a new school record this year in the long jump (24' 7 ¼") and was All-NSIC in the long jump and javelin with a pair of third place finishes to go with winning the NSIC decathlon.
Academically, Lahm is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American receiving Third Team honors in 2015 and 2017. He was also named the Bob Cunningham Male Scholar Athlete of the Year this year at Wayne State College as the top male scholar athlete.
Lahm now advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Ballot with First and Second-team Academic All-American honorees to be announced June 20
th.
