ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team Release

Jennifer Hefner of Wayne State College has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Division II Volleyball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Hefner is the first-ever Wildcat volleyball player to be named Academic All-American and she is just one of six players from NCAA Division II to receive the prestigious honor.

Hefner, a 6-1 junior middle blocker from Archer, Nebraska (Central City High School), maintains a stellar 3.96 grade point average majoring in Applied Human and Sport Physiology.  On the court, Hefner earned First Team All-Northern Sun Conference honors for the second straight year this season, averaging a team-high 3.72 kills and 1.22 blocks per set while hitting .326 for the season.  She led the NSIC this season in blocks, ranked second in points per set (4.66), third in kills per set and seventh in hitting percentage.  Hefner was also named to the All-Tournament Team at last weekend's NCAA Division II Central Regional.

Wayne State College finished the 2009 season with a 29-8 record, advancing to the NCAA Division II national tournament for the fifth straight season.  The Wildcats advanced to the Central Regional semi-finals before falling to two-time defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul.  WSC was 16-4 in the Northern Sun Conference this season to tie for second in the conference.
