Final results - 3,000 meter men's steeplechase

Wayne State's Matt Schneider earned NCAA Division II All-American honors Saturday evening with a fourth place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division II National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in San Angelo, Texas.  The senior from Nebraska City, Nebraska set a new school record with a time of 9:05.82, breaking the previous school record of 9:08.46 set by Nate Preston on April 25th at the Drake Relays.  Schneider is the first outdoor track and field All-American at Wayne State since James McGown (10,000 meter run) in 1998.

Schneider had the second fastest qualifying time entering Saturday's finals at 9:15.64 and entered the NCAA Division II national meet ranked ninth nationally with a time of 9:08.78.  The winner of the 3,000 meter steeplechase Saturday evening was Reuben Chebon-Mwei of Adams State, who was the top qualifier in Thursday's prelims, crossing the line first in a time of 8:47.10.
