Omaha Beef release on Silas Fluellen signing

The Omaha Beef of the Indoor Football League announced Monday that former Wayne State College quarterback Silas Fluellen, a native of Bellevue, has signed with the club.

In a press release from the club, Omaha Beef Head Coach Pat Pimmel said he is very excited that Fluellen will be a part of the 2011 Omaha Beef squad.  “We are always looking to pick up local players that excelled at the collegiate level and Silas is a perfect example of this,” said Pimmel.  “Numbers don't lie and what he accomplished in his four years at Wayne State is very impressive.  He will be a big part of our offense come next year,” continued Pimmel.

Fluellen racked up numerous team and conference records with the Wildcats after becoming the starting quarterback in the fourth game of his freshman season in 2006.  The Bellevue West graduate finished his Wildcat career (2006-09) with 10,578 passing yards and 11,996 yards of total offense, which ranks 10th all-time in NCAA Division II.  He holds Northern Sun Conference career marks for total offense (10,170) and passing yards (8,996) in league games.             Fluellen was a two-time All-NSIC First Team All-Conference selection at quarterback and was named the Wayne State Male Athlete of the Year in 2009-10.  He guided WSC to an 8-3 record in his senior season and helped WSC reach the NCAA Division II playoffs for the first time in school history as a junior going 9-3, matching the school record for wins in a season.  In 2007 as a sophomore, Fluellen helped WSC to a 7-4 regular season mark, leading to a berth in the Mineral Water Bowl where the 'Cats dropped a hard fought 20-13 decision to Missouri Western to finish 7-5, the first winning season for WSC football since 1995 when Dennis Wagner coached the team.
