Final Results 2010 NSIC Men's Golf Championships
The Wayne State College men's golf team shot a NSIC tournament best round of 299 Sunday in the fifth and final round of the NSIC Men's Golf Championship that concluded at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minnesota. A total of 90 holes (36 in the fall and 54 in the spring) are played to determine the Northern Sun Conference Men's Golf Champion. WSC finished the 90-hole tournament in eighth place with a team total of 1536.
Minnesota State edged Bemidji State by seven strokes, 1465-1472, to capture the NSIC Men's Golf Team Championship. St. Cloud State (1489), Concordia-St. Paul (1519) and Upper Iowa (1523) wrap up the top five. Winona State (1524) was sixth followed by Augustana (1527), Wayne State (1536), Minnesota, Crookston (1576) and Northern State in the team standings.
Sioux City Heelan junior Adam Fields posted the top score for the Wildcats during the five-round, 90 hole tournament, finishing 14th overall with a score of 377. Fields closed the tournament Sunday with a 76. Jake Hirz was next for WSC, placing 20th overall at 383 after firing a three-over 74 on Sunday. Glenwood, Iowa sophomore Tyler Thompson was 24th overall with a 388 and posted the top score for the Wildcats on Sunday with a one-over par 72. Tyler DeJong was 32nd overall out of the players that competed in all five rounds with a 400, including a 77 on Sunday. Wayne State's other score on Sunday was Justin Cunningham with a 79.
Wayne State will continue the spring season next weekend at the Minnesota State Invitational in Mankato, Minnesota on Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18.
