Upper Iowa Invitational Final Men's Results

           Fueled by a fifth place finish from junior Adam Fields, the Wayne State College men's golf team placed fifth in a strong field at the Upper Iowa Invitational men's golf tournament held Friday and Saturday at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny, Iowa.  The Wildcats shot 309 Friday and 308 Saturday for a 36-hole total of 617.  St. Cloud State edged Concordia-St. Paul, 591-596, for the team title.

            Upper Iowa finished third at 604 with the Upper Iowa B team in fourth at 614 and Wayne State fifth at 617.  Minnesota State (619), Winona State (628), Augustana (629), Minnesota, Crookston (629) and Upper Iowa C (657) rounded out the team scoring.

            Fields, a junior from Sioux City Heelan, shot rounds of 75 and 73 to finish at 148 to tie for fifth place overall.  The individual medalist with St. Cloud State's Evan Peters, who shot two-over par 144 following rounds of 72 and 72 on the par-71 course that covered 6,895 yards.  Following Fields for the Wildcats was sophomore Tyler Thompson, who was tied for 23^rd overall with rounds of 73 and 81 for a 154.  Jake Hirz tied for 28^th overall at 156 (80-76) with Justin Cunningham tied for 37^th at 160 (81-79) and Tyler DeJong finishing in 39^th place with rounds of 81 and 80 for a 161.

            Wayne State will compete in the final segment of the Northern Sun Conference Championships on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (April 9-10-11) at The Jewel Country Club in Lake City, Minnesota.
