Wayne State College head men's basketball coach Paul Combs announced today that seven players, two transfers and five high school standouts, will be joining the Wildcat program for the 2010-11 season. The seven member recruiting class signed during the NCAA spring signing period includes junior college transfers Vontrell Seroyer of Ellsworth Community College (Iowa) and Derrell Williams of Wayne County Community College (Mich.) and high school standouts Adol Aluong of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Tyler Bauschek of Mukwonago, Wisconsin, Patrick Kurth of Sioux City, Iowa, Terrell Newton of Huron, South Dakota and Ryan Rolfzen of Papillion, Nebraska.
“We are extremely pleased with this incoming recruiting class,” said remarked Coach Combs. “They will provide our program with the necessary depth which will make our workouts and practices very competitive. All of these student-athletes will be excellent teammates as they come from a solid foundation and will represent Wayne State College is a first-class fashion on and off the court.”
Vontrell Seroyer is a 5-7 point guard from Milwaukee, Wisconsin that will have two years of eligibility with the Wildcats after playing the last two seasons at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa. Seroyer was an All-Region XI First Team selection last season at Ellsworth after averaging 12.4 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game, shooting 83 percent from the free throw line. Seroyer is a graduate of Northwest Secondary High School in Milwaukee where he was a four-year starter and letter winner.
Derrell Williams, a 6-4 forward from St. Clair Shores, Michigan, will have three years of eligibility with the Wildcats after playing one season at Wayne County Community College in Detroit, Michigan. Williams averaged 6.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and led his team in steals with 70 (2.6/game), helping WCCC to an 18-10 record.
Adol Aluong (pronounced uh-dool, uh-loong) is a 6-1 guard from Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he earned Second Team Class AA All-State honors this past season averaging 10.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Aluong helped Roosevelt High School to a fifth place finish at the South Dakota Class AA Tournament last spring and was a three-year starter and four year letter winner.
Tyler Bauschek, a 6-1 guard from Mukwonago High School in Wisconsin, averaged 17.5 points per game as a senior last spring to earn First Team All Classic 8 Conference honors. He finished his career ranking third in scoring and was in double figures in 57 of the 67 varsity games played over three seasons. Bauschek also earned First Team All-Conference honors as a junior after scoring 15.8 points a contest.
Patrick Kurth is a 6-9 center from Sioux City North High School who averaged 8.6 points per game in his senior season, helping the Stars to a 14-9 record and a share of the Missouri River Activities Conference title. Kurth had a career-high 32 points vs. South Sioux City this past season on January 11 and was a Fifth Team All-Northwest Iowa selection as a senior. Kurth also excels off the court, earning Academic All-Conference honors in golf and basketball.
Terrell Newton, a 6-5 guard/forward from Huron, South Dakota, averaged 16.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.2 steals per game in his senior season, helping the Tigers to a 20-5 record and a third place finish in the South Dakota Class AA State Tournament. Newton was a two-time First Team All-State selection and a three-time All Eastern South Dakota Conference honoree while scoring over 1,000 points in his career at Huron High School.
Ryan Rolfzen is a 6-6 power forward from Papillion-LaVista South High School who led his team in scoring and rebounding as a senior, averaging 14.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game to earn honorable mention All-Metro Conference and All-State honors. Rolfzen also excels in academics, earning Academic All-State honors two seasons in both basketball and cross country. He was a two-time most outstanding player at Papillion-LaVista South High School.
Wayne State finished the 2009-10 season with a 14-15 record, going 10-10 in the NSIC to tie for sixth place overall. The Wildcats won five of their last seven games to end the season, including a 75-52 win at #15 Augustana in the first round of the 2010 NSIC Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament. Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the 14 team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
