Blake Bauer tied for 10
th place overall at five over par with rounds of 74 and 75 to lead the Wayne State College men's golf team at the Husky Classic in St. Cloud, Minnesota played Sunday and Monday. As a team, the Wildcats improved by 13 shots on the second day shooting rounds of 334 and 321 for a 36-hole team score of 655 to finish in 15
th place out of 16 teams.
Host St. Cloud State captured the team title by three strokes over Minnesota State 590-593. Manitoba was third at 597 with Bemidji State (599) and Concordia-St. Paul (601) rounding out the top five team scores.
Bauer, a graduate of O'Neill High School, posted the top score for the Wildcats with his two-day, 36-hole total of 149. Four players, Bennett Blake and Ross Miller of Minnesota State, John Hafdal from Bemidji State and Devin Holmes of St. Cloud State, tied for medalist honors with even par scores of 144. Jack Peterson (South Sioux City) at 164 with rounds of 81 and 83, sophomore
Spencer Shadden came in at 169 (87-82), Kimball freshman
Jeff Greenwood shot 93 and 81 for 174 and
Garret Kuhl shot 92-85 for a 177.
Wayne State returns to action on October 8-9 when the Wildcats play in the first segment of the Northern Sun Conference Championships in Brainerd, Minnesota.
