Wayne State 71 Concordia-St. Paul 49

            Wayne State held Concordia-St. Paul to just 25 percent shooting as the Wildcats shut down the NSIC South Division leading Golden Bears 71-49 Sunday afternoon at Rice Auditorium in Wayne in a Northern Sun Conference women's basketball contest.  The host Wildcats improve to 13-7 and 8-6 in the NSIC while CSP sees a six-game win streak come to an end and now holds records of 14-5 and 10-4 in league play.
            The Wildcats never trailed in the contest, taking a 16-5 lead in the first 5:15 of the contest.  WSC maintained a double digit lead in the first quarter and held a 20-9 lead after 10 minutes of play.
            The Golden Bears scored the first six points of the second stanza to get within five at 20-15.  WSC responded with their own 7-0 run and pushed the lead to 27-15 followed a Halley Busse jumper at the 6:15 mark.  The 'Cats sustained a double digit lead the rest of the quarter and ended the half with a 37-26 lead.
            The Wildcat defense never allowed Concordia-St. Paul a chance to get back into the game in the second half, limiting the Golden Bears to 21 percent shooting on 8 of 38 in the half.
            CSP was within nine at 43-34 late third quarter, but WSC closed the quarter on a 8-2 run and held a 51-36 lead after three quarters.
            WSC held a 20-13 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter and finished with a 71-49 win over the NSIC's hottest team entering the day.
            Sophomores Erin Norling and Halley Busse each scored 18 points to pace Wayne State.
            The Wildcats shot 39.3 percent from the field, making 22 of 56 shots.  WSC was 6 of 16 from the 3-point line and 21 for 27 at the charity stripe.
            Lindsay Dorr poured in 18 points to lead Concordia-St. Paul with Anna Schmitt scoring 13.
            CSP was held to just 25 percent shooting on 18 of 70, including 1 of 22 from the 3-point line and 12 for 18 at the charity stripe.
            WSC held a 48-45 edge in rebounding over the Golden Bears thanks to a career-high 14 rebounds from Andrea Larson. 
            Busse had four of Wayne State's 11 assists and three of the teams' six steals.
            The Wildcats will be on the road next weekend, visiting the University of Mary Friday night at 5:30 p.m. and Minot State Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
