Nate Mohr's season-high 21 points helps WSC finish strong in 94-74 NSIC road win at Concordia-St. Paul

            Freshman Nate Mohr came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points to lead Wayne State College in a 94-74 Northern Sun Conference men's basketball win Friday evening over Concordia-St. Paul at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.  With the win, WSC takes over sole possession of first place in the NSIC South Division at 13-6 in the league and 18-7 overall with CSP falling to 8-17 and 3-16 in the NSIC.  The 18th win for Wayne State also marks the most wins for a Wildcat men's basketball team since the 1999-2000 season when WSC was 26-6 in Greg McDermott's final season in Wayne.
            Wayne State never trailed in the contest, but after scoring the first 10 points of the game and built a 15-point lead in both halves the Wildcats had to stave off the Golden Bears who were within two with nine minutes left before WSC closed the game strong for the 20-point win.
            The Wildcats scored the first 10 points of the game and led 34-19 at the 9:02 mark of the first half despite point guard Vance Janssen picking up two early fouls.
            The host Golden Bears got within one at 40-39 with 1:47 to play in the half before WSC used a Jordan Janssen layup to close the first half for a 42-39 halftime lead.
            Concordia-St. Paul kept the game close early in the second half and got as close as one at 58-57 with 10:23 to play.
            With WSC holding a two point lead at 63-61 with 9:05 remaining, the Wildcats put the game out of reach with a 14-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 77-61 lead and WSC maintained the double digit advantage for the 94-74 victory.
            Freshman reserve guard Nate Mohr paced Wayne State in scoring with a season-high 21 points, more than doubling his point total of 17 points entering the contest.  He was 7 of 10 from the field and 4 for 6 behind the arc.  Freshman Nick Ferrarini added 17 points with freshman forward Jordan Janssen scoring 16.  Seniors Trevin Joseph and Kendall Jacks also hit double figures with 16 and 10 respectively.
            Wayne State made 37 of 66 shots in the game for 56.1 percent.  The 'Cats were 19 of 30 in the second half for 63.3 percent.  WSC was 7 of 20 from the 3-point line and 13 for 16 at the charity stripe.
            Bryndan Matthews poured in 18 points for Concordia-St. Paul followed by Isaiah McKay with 16.  Lee Higgins added 13 for the Golden Bears, who made 25 of 56 shots for 44.6 percent.  CSP was 7 for 22 behind the arc and 17 for 22 at the free throw line.
            Wayne State held a 34-28 edge in rebounding thanks to nine boards from Jordan Janssen
            Vance Janssen handed out four assists while Jordan Janssen had three of Wayne State's eight blocks. 
            Wayne State visits Minnesota State Saturday at 5:30 p.m. with first place on the line in the NSIC South Division.
