#7 Wildcats sweep Minot State

            Redshirt freshman Maggie Brahmer had 10 kills on 10 attacks for a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage to lead the NCAA Division II 7th-ranked Wayne State College volleyball team in a 25-15, 25-13, 25-9 Northern Sun Conference victory at Minot State Saturday afternoon at the Minot Dome.  WSC is now 12-2 and 6-1 in the league while Minot State falls to 0-13 and 0-7 in the NSIC.
            The Beavers started the first set even with the Wildcats, but with the score 8-8 WSC went on a 10-2 run to take a commanding 18-10 lead in the set. WSC won the first set 25-15 led by redshirt-freshman Maggie Brahmer with four kills on four attacks for the Wildcats. The 'Cats outhit the Beavers in the first set with WSC hitting .323 and holding Minot State to just a .034 attack percentage.
            The second saw the Wildcats jump out to an early 3-0 lead and never trail in the set. Sophomore Kelsie Cada led WSC with five kills on 13 attacks while Brahmer followed close behind with four kills on four swings. WSC hit .350 in the set while Minot State hit just .200.
            The Wildcats jumped out to another early lead in the third 14-3. The Wildcats used a service ace from freshman Taylor Wilshire to close out the third set and the match 25-9. Leading the Wildcats in the set was redshirt freshman Taya Beller and Cada each with three kills. WSC hit .412 in the set and held Minot State to a .000 attack percentage.
            As a team the Wildcats hit .352 with 39 kills and eight errors on 88 attacks while holding the Beavers to a .089 attack percentage with 19 kills and 12 errors on 79 attacks. The Wildcats had 39 digs in the match compared to 27 from the Beavers. WSC held a 3-2 advantage in blocks.
            Leading WSC in attacks was Brahmer who had 10 kills on 10 attacks and Cada with 10 kills and four errors on 32 swings. Beller had eight kills followed by Jazlin DeHaan with seven.
            Sophomore setter Rachel Walker had 26 assists in the match. Libero Alaina Wolff had nine digs on the day followed closely by Walker with eight and Jessie Brandl with seven.
            The Wildcats return home next weekend for NSIC home matches on Friday vs. Northern State at 6 p.m. and Saturday against MSU Moorhead starting at 1 p.m.
