Wildcat men take care of Bellevue 74-40

            Wayne State College forced 31 turnovers on Bellevue University to defeat the Bruins 74-40 in a non-conference men's college basketball game Tuesday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  It was the first time the two teams met in men's basketball since the 1986-87 season. The Wildcats improved to 1-2 on the season while the game was an exhibition contest for the 3-4 Bruins.
            The Wildcats never trailed in the contest.  Bellevue kept the game close until a scoring run by the Wildcats midway through the first half.
            WSC was up 14-11 at the 13:13 mark and went on a 13-0 scoring run over the next 4:20 to take a 27-11 lead.  The 'Cats pushed the lead to 22 at 40-18 before closing the first half with a 44-23 lead thanks to 63 percent shooting (17-27).
            The Wildcats opened the second half with an 11-2 run, building the lead to 30 points at 55-25 following a Jordan Janssen dunk with 14:55 to play.
            12 different Wildcats ended up scoring in the game as reserves dominated play late as Wayne State finished with the 74-40 win.
            Janssen led Wayne State in scoring with 17 points followed by Justin Eagins with 12.
            Wayne State made 29 of 57 shots for 50.9 percent, going 7 of 17 from the 3-point line and 9 for 14 at the charity stripe.
            Eric Pierce was the lone Bellevue Bruin in double figures with 11 points. 
            Bellevue shot 38 percent from the field on 16 of 42 shooting.  The Bruins were 2 for 12 from the 3-point line and 6 of 8 at the free throw line.
            Both teams had 27 rebounds in the game as Cody McCullough grabbed six boards for the Wildcats followed by Ben Dentlinger and Janssen with five each.
            Eagins had five of Wayne State's 20 steals in the game while Jay Saunders was credited with four assists. 
            The Wildcats will be at home again Friday evening hosting Simpson College at 7:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
