Black Hills State held Wayne State to just 35 percent shooting and held a 15-0 edge in second chance points to defeat the Wildcats Friday evening 66-50 in non-conference women's basketball played at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. The loss by the Wildcats snapped a 48-game home court non-conference winning streak dating back to November 24, 2008 (UNK 66 WSC 50). Both teams are now 2-1 on the season following the contest.
The first quarter was close with neither team leading by more than three points as the Wildcats finished with a 14-13 advantage after 10 minutes.
WSC maintained the lead until the midway point of the second quarter until the Yellow Jackets scored eight straight points highlighted by back to back 3-pointers that put BHSU ahead for good.
The 'Cats led 20-18 following a
Maya Fitzpatrick basket with 7:20 to play in the quarter. BHSU then scored the next eight points for a 26-20 lead and pushed the lead to seven twice before ending the half with a 32-26 lead.
Wayne State was within four of the Yellow Jackets at 34-30 with 8:27 left in the third quarter.
Black Hills State scored the next nine points, holding the 'Cats scoreless for just over three minutes, and took a 43-30 lead.
The Yellow Jackets closed the third quarter with a 52-40 lead and held a double digit lead the rest of the way, outscoring WSC 14-10 in the final stanza to finish with a 66-50 win.

Lauren Zacharias led WSC in scoring with 16 points followed by
Maya Fitzpatrick with 11.
WSC made just 17 of 48 shots for 35 percent and was 6 for 21 from the 3-point line and 10 of 15 at the charity stripe.
Black Hills State was paced by Danica Kocer with nine points while Kalla Bertram and Ashley Davis had eight points apiece.
The Yellow Jackets shot 42 percent making 22 of 52 shots, including 7 of 22 behind the arc. BHSU was a strong 15 for 19 shooting from the free throw line.
BHSU out-rebounded WSC 38-25 with 13 offensive rebounds that resulted in a 15-0 edge in second chance points. WSC had one more turnover than the Yellow Jackets 18-17.
Abby Kopecky led the 'Cats with seven boards followed by Zacharias with six.
