#6 Minnesota State forced 37 Wayne State turnovers as the host Mavericks remained unbeaten with a 98-59 Northern Sun Conference women's basketball win over the Wildcats Saturday evening at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minnesota. MSU is now 9-0 and 5-0 in the NSIC South while WSC falls to 7-2 and 3-2 in league games.
The host Mavericks raced out to a 15-1 lead in the first six minutes of the game.
Following the slow start, WSC came back and closed the early deficit down to five at the end of the first quarter trailing 21-16.
The 'Cats kept the game close until a late scoring run in the final four minutes of the half gave Minnesota State control of the game.
After MSU scored the first basket of the second quarter to take a 23-16 lead, Wayne State got as close as three at 25-22 when freshman
Kylah vanDonkersgoed made a three-point play with 7:07 to play in the quarter.
The Wildcats were still within four at 30-26 following a
Rachel Dahlen basket with 4:13 to go in the half, but Minnesota State closed the half on a 13-3 run to take a 43-26 lead at intermission.
Minnesota State outscored Wayne State 33-20 in the third quarter, making 10 of 20 shots, to build a 76-49 advantage and the Mavericks continued the pressure in the fourth quarter and held a 22-10 scoring advantage to finish with a 98-59 win.
Wayne State made 19 of 56 shots in the game for 33.9 percent and sank 5 of 19 3-pointers while sinking 16 of 20 free throw shots.

Ashley Gustavson scored a career-high 12 points to lead Wayne State in scoring. Sioux Falls freshman
Kylah vanDonkersgoed added a season-high 11 points and eight rebounds.
Minnesota State shot 47.9 percent from the field on 34 of 71. The Mavericks were 9 for 21 from 3-point range and 21 of 26 at the charity stripe.
Natalie Bremer scored a game-high 21 points for Minnesota State followed by Destinee Bursch with 20. Joey Batt and Emily Herzberg each had 15 points.
Wayne State held a 43-35 advantage in rebounds as vanDonkersgoed had eight for the 'Cats followed by
Rachel Dahlen with five.
Minnesota State held a sizeable 36-13 edge in points off turnovers thanks to forcing 37 miscues on the Wildcats and held a 50-22 edge on points in the paint.
Wayne State will be at home next weekend, hosting Winona State Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. and Upper Iowa Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
