Minot State rallied from a seven point deficit with two minutes remaining, taking advantage of three straight Wayne State turnovers, as the Beavers shocked the Wildcats 80-79 in Northern Sun Conference men's basketball played Friday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. The visiting Beavers are now 8-7 and 5-6 in the league while Wayne State slips to 11-6 and 6-5 in the NSIC.
Minot State held the lead for a majority of the first half in a game that featured 13 ties and nine lead changes.
The biggest lead for Wayne State in the first half was 4-0 to start the game while the Beavers held a pair of six point leads and was in front 35-29 with 4:18 to go before Wayne State used a
Justin Eagins 3-point right before halftime to cut the Beaver lead to 37-36 at intermission.
Neither team held a lead of more than four points until WSC had a scoring run midway through the half that gave the 'Cats a nine point advantage, their biggest lead of the night with 5:17 to play.
A pair of
Cody McCullough free throws gave WSC a 73-64 lead with 5:17 remaining.
A quick 6-0 run by the Beavers cut the Wildcat edge to three at 73-70, but the 'Cats responded with two more McCullough free throws and a
Jay Saunders layup to lead 77-70.

Nate Mohr basket at the 2:08 mark saw the 'Cats take a 79-72 lead.
The next possession saw Minot State's Khari Broadway hit a jumper to reduce the WSC lead to 79-74.
Wayne State then had three straight turnovers that led to Minot's Connor Hollenbeck's layup and free throw followed by a Jalen Cook 3-pointer from the top of the key with 27 seconds to play giving the Beavers an 80-79 lead.
The Wildcats had the final possession resulting in a forced jumper from the right side that was missed by
Nate Mohr. Saunders snagged the offensive rebound with three seconds left but then lost the ball and Minot State stunned the Wildcat home crowd with the 80-79 win.
Wayne State shot 55.4 percent in the loss making 31 of 56 shots including 7 of 17 from 3-point range. The 'Cats were 10 of 12 at the charity stripe.
Jordan Janssen scored a game-high 24 points on 9 of 16 shooting from the floor. He also had a season-high seven assists. Other Wildcats reaching double figures were
Justin Eagins with 13 while Mohr and Saunders each scored 11.
Minot State shot 49 percent making 27 of 55 shots. The Beavers hit 9 of 21 shots behind the arc and were 17 for 19 at the free throw line.
Jaxon Gunville recorded 22 points for Minot State followed by Broadway with 18, Hollenbeck 16 and Cook 13.
Both teams had 27 rebounds in the contest. Janssen had six for the Wildcats followed by McCullough with five.
The Wildcats are home again Saturday evening hosting the University of Mary at 5:30 p.m.
