Jordan Janssen and
Justin Eagins each scored 16 points to lead Wayne State College past Bemidji State 68-53 in Northern Sun Conference men's basketball Friday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. WSC is now 13-6 and 8-5 in the NSIC while BSU drops to 12-7 and 7-6 in league games.
The 'Cats took a 10-6 lead six minutes into the contest with Janssen scoring six early points for WSC.
Bemidji State then scored the next seven points and held a 13-10 advantage, but WSC came back with six straight points to take the lead for good at 16-13.
With WSC leading 16-15, the 'Cats went on a 16-4 run and took their first double digit lead at 32-19 before ending the first half holding a 35-21 edge at intermission.
Wayne State maintained a double digit advantage throughout the entire second half.
Bemidji State got as close as 11 at 36-25, but Wayne State went on a 11-2 run to take a commanding 47-27 lead at the 12:57 mark on a
Elijah Watson basket.
The Wildcats finished the game shooting 46 percent making 29 of 63 shots. WSC was 6 for 15 from the 3-point line and 4 of 9 at the free throw line.
Eagins and Janssen each scored 16 points to lead WSC. Janssen now needs 10 points to surpass Grady Hansen's 1942 points for the all-time scoring mark at Wayne State.
Bemidji State shot 40.4 percent for the game on 21 of 52 shots. The Beavers were 4 of 19 behind the arc and 7 of 13 from the charity stripe.
WSC had one more rebound than BSU 35-34.
Cody McCullough grabbed eight boards for WSC with Eagins adding six.
Nate Mohr handed out five assists while Eagins had four steals and McCullough four blocks.
WSC is at home again Saturday afternoon playing Minnesota Crookston in Rice Auditorium at 3:30 p.m.
