Wayne State snapped a five-game losing streak Friday evening at Rice Auditorium leading from start to finish in a 71-55 win over Bemidji State in Northern Sun Conference women's basketball. The Wildcats are now 10-7 overall and 6-7 in the NSIC, surpassing last year's win total (9-15) while BSU falls to 5-12 and 2-11 in league games.
The 'Cats opened the game scoring the first 10 points. Bemidji State trimmed the WSC advantage to four several times before the Wildcats closed the opening quarter with a 23-15 lead thanks to 50 percent shooting (9-18) to start the game.
Wayne State continued their hot shooting in the second quarter, outscoring Bemidji State 23-13 to build a 46-28 lead at intermission.
The third quarter saw both teams go cold from the field as the Wildcats made just 3 of 21 shots while Bemidji State hit just 3 of 13 shots and Wayne State held a 56-39 lead after three quarters.
The Wildcats opened the fourth quarter with a 16-3 scoring run to take their biggest lead of the night at 69-42 and Wayne State ended with a 71-55 victory.

The 'Cats shot 36 percent from the field making 26 of 72 shots, going 8 for 23 from the 3-point line and 11 for 16 at the foul stripe.
Trinity Yoder poured in 19 points for Bemidji State with Alyssa Hill recording 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Bemidji State made 18 of 57 shots for 31.6 percent. The Beavers were 3 of 15 behind the arc and 16 for 23 at the free throw line.
WSC held a 46-42 edge in rebounding over Bemidji State thanks to a career-high 10 caroms by
Abby Kopecky as the Wildcats hauled in a season-best 21 offensive rebounds.
The Wildcats will be at home again Saturday evening hosting Minnesota Crookston at 5:30 p.m.
