#1 Wayne State posted a stellar .466 hitting percentage in disposing of Minnesota State in Northern Sun Conference volleyball Saturday afternoon at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. Scores of the match were 25-13, 25-13, 25-9. The Wildcats are now 19-1 and 10-0 in the league while Minnesota State drops to 9-9 and 4-6 in league play.
The Wildcats trailed just twice all day in the entire match. In the first set WSC took an early 12-6 lead produced 15 kills and a .448 hitting percentage for a 25-13 set win.
Kelsie Cada had six kills on eight swings to lead the 'Cats in the opening set followed by
Taya Beller with four kills on five attacks.
WSC stepped up the defensive pressure in the second set, forcing 10 MSU errors with five blocks as the 'Cats rolled to another 25-13 set win.
Cada added another four kills while
Maggie Brahmer had two solo blocks and
Jordan McCormick two service aces to lead the 'Cats.
Wayne State closed the match with a sizzling .636 hitting percentage in the third set, accounting for 15 kills and just one error on 22 attacks, as the Wildcats completed the match with a 25-9 set win.
Beller had four kills followed by Cada, Brahmer and
Channatee Robles with three apiece.
WSC finished the match with a .446 hitting percentage, the third time the 'Cats have hit above .400 this season. The 'Cats held Minnesota State to a .048 percentage with 24 kills, 20 errors and 83 attacks.
Wayne State held a 9-1 advantage in blocks and had eight service aces to just three for the Mavericks.
Cada had 13 kills and a .571 hitting percentage to pace WSC. Beller added nine kills in the win.
Brahmer had four blocks (three solo) with Beller adding three blocks. Senior libero
Jordan McCormick had 13 digs while setter
Rachel Walker accounted for 27 set assists.
Havyn Heinz had three service aces with McCormick and Cada each adding two.
Wayne State plays NSIC road games next weekend at Northern State Friday evening at 6 p.m. and at MSU Moorhead Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
