Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

#1 WSC sweeps MSU Moorhead - Beller joins 1,000 kill club

#1 Wayne State used a steady .349 hitting percentage and junior middle hitter Taya Beller became the 20th player in Wildcat volleyball history to reach 1,000 career kills as WSC recorded a 25-14, 25-18, 25-17 Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep at MSU Moorhead Saturday afternoon.  The 'Cats move to 21-1 on the season and remain perfect in NSIC play at 12-0 while the host Dragons drop to 7-14 and 3-9 in league games.
The Wildcats never trailed in the opening set, building an early 8-2 lead to force an MSU Moorhead timeout.  WSC extended the advantage to 18-11 and closed the opening set with a 25-14 win.
Wayne State had 16 kills and posted a .351 hitting percentage in the opening set win.   Maggie Brahmer had six kills to pace the 'Cats in the opening set followed by Beller, Kelsie Cada and Channatee Robles with three apiece.
WSC also built a big advantage in the second set, but the host Dragons surged back and closed within one point twice before the Wildcats closed the set strong for a 25-18 set victory.
The 'Cats opened the set with a 9-3 lead.  But MSUM rallied and got within one at 13-12 and again at 16-15.  But WSC scored four of the next five points on a pair of Beller kills, one from Maggie Brahmer and a MSUM attack error to take a 20-16 on their way to finishing the set with a 25-18 win.
Cada had four kills followed by Beller with three along with three blocks (two solo).
The third set was close again early until a Wildcat scoring surge put WSC in control.  With WSC trailing 10-9, the 'Cats scored the next five points to take the lead for good at 14-10 and never looked back to complete the sweep with a 25-17 third set win.
Cada had six kills in the final set with Beller adding five.  Brooke Peltz, Cada and Robles each had service aces.
Wayne State finished the match with a .349 hitting percentage while holding the Dragons to .180.  The 'Cats held a 45-37 advantage in kills, 6-1 in blocks and 6-3 in service aces.  WSC forced 17 attack errors on the Dragons, 10 less errors than the Wildcats.
Cada led a balanced Wildcat effort at the net with 13 kills.  Taya Beller added 11 kills and is now the 20th player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills while Brahmer added 10.
Defensive specialist Havyn Heinz had a team-high nine digs while Beller posted a team-leading five blocks.  Cada had two of Wayne State's six service aces and senior setter Rachel Walker handed out 37 set assists.
The Wildcats return home next weekend hosting Minot State Friday night at 6 p.m. and the University of Mary Saturday afternoon in a 3 p.m. contest.
