Minnesota State shot 58.6 percent from the field and forced 36 turnovers on Wayne State as the Mavericks posted a 106-64 victory over the Wildcats in a Northern Sun Conference women's basketball game played Saturday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. MSU is now 7-4 and 4-1 in league play while WSC drops to 3-5 and 0-5 in NSIC games.
Minnesota State opened the first quarter making 13 of their first 16 shots from the field to take a 32-12 lead after one quarter.
Wayne State came out strong in the second quarter and closed to within 11 at 44-33 on a
Meg Rietz jumper with 3:28 to go before halftime. But the visiting Mavericks closed the first half on a 9-2 run to take a 53-35 lead at intermission.
The Mavericks continued their tenacious defense and scoring pace in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 28-12 and 25-17 in the fourth quarter to finish with a 106-64 win.
Jordon Heckert was the lone Wayne State player in double figures scoring 22 points.
Wayne State made 21 of 46 shots for 45.7 percent. The 'Cats were 9 of 22 from the 3-point line and 13 for 15 at the free throw line.
Joey Batt poured in a game-high 26 points for Minnesota State with 10 steals. Natalie Bremer scored 21 points while Destinee Bursch (19) and Hannah Herzig (16) also hit double figures.
Minnesota State shot 58.6 percent from the field on 41 of 70 shooting. The Mavericks were 8 of 13 behind the arc and 16 for 21 from the charity stripe.
Both teams had 29 rebounds.

Britney Ho each hauled in six boards for the 'Cats.
The Wildcats will be at home again Wednesday evening host Augustana at 7:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
