Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

#1 Wildcats sweep #6 St. Cloud State on the road

#1 Wayne State defeated #6 St. Cloud State 25-23, 25-23, 25-21 Friday evening in Northern Sun Conference volleyball at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, Minnesota.  WSC is the last remaining unbeaten team in NSIC play at 4-0 in the league and 13-1 overall while the Huskies drop to 11-3 and 4-1 in NSIC games.
The first two sets saw the Wildcats score key points late to rally in each set for 25-23 wins and then built a sizeable lead early in the third set and fought off a late Husky surge for a 25-21 set win to complete the sweep.
St. Cloud State opened the first set with a 6-2 lead, but WSC battled back and took a 9-8 lead thanks to back-to-back kills from freshman Channatee Robles and a pair of Taya Beller kills.
After the Huskies took a 12-10 lead, the 'Cats rallied for a 17-15 lead.  SCSU responded and led 20-18, but the 'Cats got the next three points to force a Husky timeout.
Tied at 23-23, WSC used a Kelsie Cada kill and service ace by Rachel Walker to close out the first set rally.
Cada had five kills followed by Beller with four.  Walker handed out 13 assists and had two aces as Wayne State hit .500 as a team with 16 kills and just one attack error.
The second set featured 16 ties and six lead changes as both teams traded points with the largest lead at three.
St. Cloud State enjoyed leads of 13-10 and 19-16.  A Beller kill, block by Cada and Maggie Brahmer and SCSU attack error knotted the score at 19-19.
The teams continue to trade points and ties and with the score even at 23-23 WSC got the key points late once again thanks to a kill by Beller and a Husky attack error to win the second set 25-23.
WSC forced eight SCSU attack errors in the set highlighted by four blocks.  Beller had five kills with Brahmer adding four to go with four blocks.
Wayne State never trailed in the third set after building big leads early and the Wildcats completed the sweep with a 25-21 set win.
Three straight kills from Cada put the 'Cats in front 13-6.  SCSU did close within four at 18-14 but WSC pushed the lead back to 23-17 and capped the win with a Kelsie Cada kill for a 25-21 set win and the sweep.
Wayne State finished the match with a .304 hitting percentage while holding St. Cloud State to .203.  The 'Cats held a 46-43 edge in kills and out-blocked the Huskies 6-4 while St. Cloud State had 52 digs to 46 for WSC.  SCSU had eight service aces to three for WSC.
Cada led Wayne State in hitting with 15 kills followed by Beller with 13 and Brahmer 11.  Senior setter Rachel Walker recorded 37 set assists and had two of Wayne State's three service aces.  Brahmer had six blocks to lead WSC followed by Cada with three.  Senior libero Jordan McCormick notched 15 digs in the win.
