Senior middle hitter
Maggie Brahmer produced a team-high 12 kills, five blocks and a .579 hitting percentage to power #6 Wayne State College in a 25-21, 25-17, 25-15 win at Bemidji State in Northern Sun Conference volleyball Saturday afternoon in Bemidji, Minnesota. WSC improves to 12-2 and 6-0 in the NSIC while the host Beavers drop to 5-7 and 0-4 in the league.
The opening set saw the Wildcats force eight Bemidji State attack errors while Brahmer recorded five kills to lead WSC in a 25-21 win.
Brahmer had another five kills in the second set with
Channatee Robles adding three kills as the 'Cats cruised to a 25-17 set win.
WSC led 8-6 early in the second set, then used service aces by
Brooke Peltz and
Taya Beller along with a solo block from Beller to build a 15-9 lead forcing a Beaver timeout. The 'Cats extended the advantage to 19-11 and closed the set with 14 kills and no errors for a .583 hitting percentage.
The third set saw Brahmer notch three solo blocks and two assists while Robles had four kills allowing the Wildcats to complete the sweep with a 25-15 third set win.
WSC built a 13-5 lead and the "Cats ended the set with five blocks to close out the sweep.
Wayne State finished the match hitting .384 with 37 kills and just four attack errors on 86 swings. BSU had a .187 percentage with 39 kills, 19 errors and 107 attacks.
The 'Cats held a 44-38 edge in digs and 7-2 in blocks while recording one more ace than BSU 6-5.
Brahmer's 12 kills led the Wildcats followed by Robles with nine and
Brooklyn Kusler eight.
Senior libero
Brooke Peltz had a team-high 19 digs while Brahmer had five blocks (three solo). Freshman setter
Molly Romano was credited with 32 assists.
The Wildcats will be on the road again Tuesday evening visiting Winona State at 6 p.m.
