Carsyn Boswell had a game-high 16 points to go with career-high seven rebounds and five assists while missing just one shot from the field to lead Wayne State past William Jewell College 82-60 in a non-conference women's basketball game played Wednesday afternoon at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. The host Wildcats improve to 2-2 while the visiting Cardinals drop to 1-4.
The game was close early as the Wildcats held a 15-12 lead after one quarter.
The Wildcats then used over 60 percent shooting in the next two quarters to separate themselves from the Cardinals.
William Jewell and WSC were tied at 22-22 with 5:29 to play in the second quarter, then WSC and Boswell took control of the game with a scoring surge to close the half with a double-digit lead.
Boswell scored seven straight points to give the 'Cats a 29-22 advantage before closing the half with a 39-28 lead.
Boswell went 5-5 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers and two free throws for a 14-point second quarter.
WSC came out on fire in the third quarter, making 9 of 14 shots from the field while building a 29-point lead.
Tate Norblade had 10 points in the quarter followed by
Kylah vanDonkersgoed with eight. Boswell added four assists and three rebounds as the Wildcats led 66-40 entering the fourth quarter.
13 Wildcats saw action in the fourth quarter with Wayne sophomore
Brooklyn Kruse scoring seven of Wayne State's 16 points in the quarter as Wayne State finished with an 82-60 victory.
Boswell's 16 points paced four Wildcats in double figures. vanDonkersgoed followed with 15 points while Kruse (14) and Norblade (12) also hit double figures for Wayne State.
WSC shot an even 50 percent from the field making 32 of 64 shots. The 'Cats were 7 of 14 behind the arc and 11 for 14 at the free throw line.
Ayden Shannon poured in a game-high 23 points for William Jewell.
WJC shot 35.4 percent making 23 of 65 shots from the field. The Cardinals were 7 of 18 from 3-point range and 7 of 13 at the foul line.
Wayne State held a commanding 47-32 edge in rebounding thanks to nine boards from vanDonkersgoed and seven by Boswell.
Maya Fitzpatrick handed out six assists with Boswell adding five and vanDonkersgoed finished with a team-high three blocked shots.

th hosting #9 Minnesota State at 5:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
