Concordia-St. Paul's Lydia Haack and Lindsey Becher combined for 47 points to lead the #13 Golden Bears past Wayne State 75-62 Friday evening in Northern Sun Conference women's basketball played at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. CSP is now 10-0 on the season and 4-0 in the NSIC while WSC is 4-4 and 1-3.
Wayne State never led in the contest, trailing 9-0 in the first four minutes of the contest. Senior guard
Delaney Clark got the 'Cats on the board 5:30 into the contest with a 3-pointer and after an
Abby Kopecky basket got the 'Cats within 9-5, the Golden Bears extended their advantage to 11 (17-6) before closing the opening stanza with a 17-8 lead.
The 'Cats were down by as many as 13 points in the second quarter at 25-12, then scored eight straight points to get within five at 25-20 following a
Tate Norblade layup before ending the first half trailing 29-22 at intermission.
Early in the third quarter WSC scored seven straight points to close within four at 33-29 with 7:43 to go in the quarter on a
Carsyn Boswell jumper. WSC was still within six later in the quarter at 47-41 but the host Golden Bears scored 11 of the final 12 points of the quarter to take a 58-42 lead after three quarters.
The Golden Bears pushed the lead to 22 (68-46) near the midway point of the fourth quarter and the 'Cats outscored CSP 20-17 in the final quarter to make the final score 75-62.
Norblade led the Wildcats in scoring with 14 points followed by Clark with 13.
WSC was 21 of 56 shooting from the field for 37.5 percent, going 6 of 20 from 3-point range and 14 for 20 at the charity stripe.
Haack had a game-high 25 points for Concordia-St. Paul followed by Becher's 22 points and Mikayla Kanenwisher scoring 10.
Concordia-St. Paul shot 45.8 percent from the field making 27 of 59 shots. The Golden Bears were 6 of 12 from the 3-point line and 15 of 18 at the free throw line.
Wayne State held a 39-33 edge in rebounding thanks to a career-best 11 boards by junior
Meg Rietz. She also handed out a team-high three assists while
Maya Fitzpatrick had two blocked shots.
Concordia-St. Paul held a commanding 26-6 edge in points off turnovers, creating 16 WSC miscues compared to just six on the Golden Bears.
Wayne State visits Minnesota Duluth Saturday in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
