Career-highs from Kruse, Dahlen lead Wildcats past Minnesota Crookston 67-52

            Freshman Brooklyn Kruse and sophomore Rachel Dahlen each recorded career-highs with 16 and 12 points respectively to lead the Wayne State College women's basketball team to a 67-52 Northern Sun Conference road win Saturday afternoon at Minnesota Crookston.  The Wildcats snap a six-game losing streak and are now 6-17 and 3-17 in the league while the host Golden Eagles are now 9-17 and 6-14 in NSIC games.
            Minnesota Crookston built a seven-point lead (18-11) in the opening quarter and closed with a 19-16 lead.
            Dahlen and Kruse opened the second quarter with baskets for the Wildcats, giving WSC a 20-19 lead.  The 'Cats held the lead the rest of the quarter although never led by more than three points closing with a 34-33 lead at the break.
            The third quarter remained close between the two clubs until a late scoring run to close the quarter by the Wildcats gave WSC a 53-43 lead.
            WSC held a 42-41 lead at the 5:53 mark, then closed the quarter on a 11-2 run giving the 'Cats a double-digit lead thanks to 57 percent shooting (8-14) in the quarter.  Kruse had a perfect quarter shooting scoring eight points on 3 of 3 from the field to go with a pair of free throws.
            The Wildcats maintained a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, building a lead of 20 points several times before closing with a 67-52 win.  WSC held UMC to just 3 of 15 shooting in the third and fourth quarters to pull away for the win.
            Kruse had a career-best 16 points on 6 of 14 shooting to lead the Wildcats in scoring.  Maya Fitzpatrick scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half while Dahlen ended with a career-high 12 points making 6 of 9 shots from the field.
            Wayne State finished the game making 29 of 63 shots for 46 percent, going 3 for 8 behind the arc and 6 for 10 at the charity stripe.
            Emma Miller was the lone Minnesota Crookston player in double figures with 10 points.
            UMC was 18 of 60 shooting for 30 percent.  The Golden Eagles were 6 for 17 from 3-point range and 10 of 17 at the line.
            Wayne State held a 44-37 edge in rebounding over the Golden Eagles thanks to seven rebounds from Tate NorbladeCarsyn Boswell handed out four assists while Fitzpatrick had a team-high three steals.
            WSC returns to Rice Auditorium next weekend to close out the regular season facing the University of Mary Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Northern State Saturday afternoon in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
