Wayne State Earns Series Sweep over Concordia-St. Paul in 13-3 Win

Wildcat baseball completed the three-game series sweep of Concordia-St. Paul this afternoon with their 13-3 win at home. Tyson Romero started on the bump and pitched four scoreless innings, striking out six batters and only giving up two hits. Four 'Cats recorded three hits on the day and Brayden Chaney and Taylor Gill both smacked home runs. WSC moves to 20-14 overall and 16-9 on the NSIC.
Romero and the defense put the first three Golden bears down in order with a strikeout and a double-play to start the ball game. Cam Madsen led off with a single and Chase Douglas followed up with a triple and scored on an error to make it 2-0.
CSP would load the bases in the second inning with two outs. With a full count, Romero would strikeout the third batter to get out of the jam. Romero would strike out all three batters in the inning.
Braden Chaney stepped up to the plate for his first at bat and would smash the ball out of the park to the right field line for his first career home run. The two-run bomb extended WSC's lead out to 4-0.
CSP would be unable to see any action in the third and fourth, only recording one hit in the two innings while WSC added one more run off a fielding error.
Up 5-0, Wayne State went into the bottom of the fourth and scored five runs on five hits. Douglas batted in the first run with his double down the right field line. Max Heard grounded out for the first out but earned the RBI as Madsen scored. Douglas would score with the next batter to make it 8-0. Braden Cannon drove in a run followed up by Casey Prychak for the 10th run scored by the 'Cats.
The Golden Bears scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning on two hits and one Wildcat error. WSC responded with two runs including a Tyler Gill home run that just got out of the park.
Neither squad would see any more runs scored until the bottom of the eighth. Wayne State had runners in scoring position at first and second. Chaney came up and singled to right and drove in the 13th run for WSC to give the 'Cats the 13-3 win.
Wayne State will be back in action on April 15th when they travel to Augustana University for a midweek doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Ronken Field.
