#14 Wayne State used 11 kills each from
Chloe Hanel and
Mattie Kamery as the Wildcats opened their 2025 home schedule with a 25-15, 26-24, 25-22 victory over Augustana Tuesday evening in Northern Sun Conference volleyball played at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. WSC is now 9-2 and 3-0 in the NSIC while the Vikings drop to 7-4 and 1-2 in league action.
Wayne State never trailed in the opening set, jumping out to early 6-1 and 11-3 leads as the 'Cats cruised to an opening set 25-15 win. The 'Cats hit .312 to open the match and used three kills and two service aces from
Channatee Robles to start the match strong. Hanel, Kamery and Kathol also had three kills.
The second set saw the Wildcats hold off a late Augustana charge to edge the Vikings 26-24. WSC built a 15-10 lead at the midway point of the set, but Augustana rallied to knot the match at 17-17 and took a short-lived 19-18 lead. The 'Cats bounced back and grabbed a 24-21 lead, but the Vikings forced extra points and tied the score at 24-24 before WSC used back-to-back kills from Hanel to close the second set for a 26-24 victory.
Kamery had five kills on six attacks for an .833 hitting percentage in the second set with Hanel right behind with four kills on six attacks and a .667 hitting percentage.
The third set saw Augustana take the early lead with the Wildcats mounting a rally to complete the sweep with a 25-22 win. The Vikings led 13-8, but WSC forced a Viking timeout after scoring five of the next six points to cut the Augustana advantage to 14-13.
The two teams traded several ties and lead changes followed by Augustana taking a 21-19 lead to force a WSC timeout. The 'Cats used a kill from
Delaney Miller, a block by Hanel and Miller and a Hanel kill to take the lead back at 22-21. After both teams traded points, an Augustana service error gave WSC match point with Hanel closing the match on a kill for a 25-22 set win.
Hanel had four kills in the final set with Miller, Kamery and Robles each adding three.
WSC finished the match hitting .290 while holding Augustana to a .222 attack percentage. The 'Cats held a 42-39 edge in kills and out-blocked the Vikings 7-5. Augustana had one more service ace than WSC 6-5, but the Vikings had 12 service errors to just five by the 'Cats.
Hanel had 11 kills and five blocks for WSC with a .786 hitting percentage in the win. Kamery added 11 kills and 17 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.

Molly Romano handed out 33 set assists.
The Wildcats will be at home again Friday evening hosting #16 Minnesota Duluth in a 6 p.m. contest at Rice Auditorium.
