MSU Moorhead used a 47-29 advantage in rebounding to help defeat Wayne State 84-73 Saturday afternoon in a Northern Sun Conference men's basketball game played in frigid Moorhead, Minnesota at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse. The host Dragons are now 10-8 and 7-5 in the NSIC North while the Wildcats drop to 9-8 and 5-6 in the NSIC South Division.
Wayne State scored the first four points of the game and led for 1:32 until the host Dragons took the lead for the rest of the afternoon.

JJ Ferrin 3-pointer tied the score at 9-9 with 13:29 to play in the half. MSU Moorhead went on a 10-2 scoring run and grabbed a 19-11 advantage at the 10:10 mark of the half.
The Wildcats got within four at 22-18 thanks to a
Ben Kerkhoff 3-pointer with 8:19 left before halftime. But a 13-3 run by the host Dragons gave MSU Moorhead their biggest lead of the first half at 35-21 and the hosts closed the opening 20 minutes with a 43-33 lead.
Wayne State opened the second half strong, using a 10-2 run, to close the deficit to 45-43 following an
Aurrion Harris jumper with 15:51 to play. That's as close as the Wildcats would get to the Dragons the rest of the game.
The 'Cats were still within five at 55-50 with 10:42 to go in the contest when the Dragons began to pull away.
MSUM took their first double-digit lead of the second half at 69-57 with 7:21 to play and pushed the lead to 18 at 77-59 before closing with the 84-73 win.
Senior forward
Andrew Stokes led Wayne State in scoring with 15 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field. Harris and Ferrin each finished with 13 points while sophomore forward
Matt Noll ended with 11.
WSC made 28 of 63 shots for 44.4 percent, including 6 for 21 behind the arc, while going 11 for 18 at the foul line.
Kabine Kaba led four MSU Moorhead players in double figures with 13 followed by Isa El-Amin with 12, Sam Hondl 11 and Levi Birkholz 10.
MSU Moorhead shot 49 percent from the field making 32 of 65 shots. The Dragons were 9 for 22 from the 3-point line and 11 of 15 at the charity stripe.
Harris was the top WSC rebounder with seven and had three assists along with Noll and Ferrin. Noll had a team-high three steaks with two blocked shots.
The Wildcats' scheduled game at Minnesota Crookston Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. was postponed for a second time in 24 hours due to a blizzard warning in northern Minnesota. Wayne State's next scheduled action is Friday, January 23
rd when the Wildcats travel to Bismarck, North Dakota to battle the University of Mary at 7:30 p.m.
