Winona State erupted for eight runs in the first inning and completed a three-game NSIC baseball series sweep over Wayne State Sunday afternoon with a 13-3 eight-inning win in Winona, Minnesota. The host Warriors move to 20-19 on the season and 15-11 in the league while the Wildcats have dropped nine of their last 11 games and fall to 23-20 overall and 15-15 in the NSIC.
The host Warriors scored eight runs in the first inning on six hits and one Wildcat error to take command of the game early and lead 8-0.
WSC did strike back for three runs in the top of the second as
Easton Mains connected for a three-run homer to center field scoring
Paul Schuyler (walk) and
Casey Prychak (hit by pitch).
The score remained 8-3 from the bottom of the second until the bottom of the sixth when Winona State added two runs to take a 10-3 lead. The Warriors produced two more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth to complete the 13-3 win.
Wayne State had six hits in the game. Mains ended 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBI.

Starting pitcher Matthias Tronsdon (1-4) suffered the pitching loss, charged with six runs in the first inning allowing four hits with one walk and one hit batter.

Wayne State is at home Wednesday afternoon hosting Southwest Minnesota State in an NSIC doubleheader with game times at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex.
