Kennadi Borngrebe fired a three-hit shutout in the second game for a 6-0 win helping Wayne State softball gain a split of a Northern Sun Conference doubleheader at Northern State in Aberdeen, South Dakota after the host Wolves rallied to win the opener 3-2. WSC is now 39-13 on the season and 19-9 in the NSIC while NSU is 20-26 and 10-18 in league play.
The opener saw the host Wolves score two runs in the sixth inning to rally for a 3-2 win over the 'Cats.
WSC plated a pair of runs in the third for a 2-0 lead as
Jordyn Klein had an RBI single to score
Jordyn Rochholz while Klein later scored on an RBI groundout by
Maddie Scobee.
Northern State scored one run in the fourth and then came up with two in the sixth to post the 3-2 win.
WSC held a 7-4 edge in hits over the Wolves. Klein was 2 for 3 with a pair of singles, RBI and run scored while
Emilee Marth and Borngrebe each doubled.
Taylor Coleman (14-6) was tagged with the pitching loss in a complete game effort. She allowed four hits and three runs with eight strikeouts and one walk.
The second game saw Borngrebe limit Northern State to just three hits as the Wildcats rebounded with a 6-0 shutout win to gain a split of the twinbill.
Wayne State sprinted out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning as the 'Cats used three hits and a pair of walks to score four runs. Scobee had an RBI single to score the first run followed by a Coleman sacrifice fly and a
Lillie Timm two-run single.
The 'Cats added two runs in the third when Coleman singled and came home on a Borngrebe two-run homer to left center field.
In the circle, Borngrebe was in control tossing a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks improving to 17-6 on the season.
WSC held an 8-3 edge in hits on the Wolves. Marth went 3 for 4 with one run scored. Borngrebe's homer was the lone extra base hit for the 'Cats while Coleman, Scobee,
Reagan Dreibelbis and Timm each singled.
The Wildcats close out the NSIC regular season Sunday with a doubleheader at the University of Jamestown starting at 12 p.m.
