Biography

2012 Outdoor: Competed in the hammer throw for the Wildcats...received All-American honors with his seventh place finish in the hammer throw at the NCAA Division II National Track and Field Championships with a throw of 205'7"...finishes WSC career as a four-time All-American as a two-time All-American during the indoor season in the weight throw and a two-time All-American in the outdoor season in the hammer throw...named NSIC Male Field Athlete of the Year...set a new school record, NCAA automatic qualifying mark and Olympic Trials qualifying mark at the Drake Relays to finish second with a throw of 217'2"...National qualifier in the hammer throw and was named NSIC Male Field Athlete of the Week twice during the season.

2012 Indoor: Participated in the weight throw during second season with the Wildcats...earned All-American honors for a second straight season in the weight throw with a sixth place finish at NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals at Mankato, Minnesota on 3-9-12 with throw of 67' 3 1/4"...threw a new school record and an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the weight throw at the NSIC Championships with a throw of 68' 11 1/4"...was named NSIC Men's Field Athlete of the Year.

2011 Outdoor: Earned All American honors in the hammer throw at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Turlock, California on 5-26-11...finished seventh place with at throw of 196' 1"...received All-NSIC honors with a second place finish in the hammer throw at the NSIC Championships on 5-13-11 throwing 199' 2"...set new school record with NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 206' 6" at the Drake Relays on 4-30-11...was named NSIC Men's Field Athlete of the Week on 4-26-11 after winning hammer throw at Prairie Wolf Invite with mark of 202' 2"...won the hammer throw with new stadium record toss of 200' 1" at Howard Wood Relays on 5-7-11.

2011 Indoor: Became first WSC male indoor track and field All-American since Matt Kneifl in 2001 by placing sixth in the 35 pound weight throw at NCAA Indoor National Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico March 11 with top throw of 65' 4 1/4"...set new school record by winning weight throw at UNL Tuneup Open on 2-18-11 with NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 65' 8 3/4"...named NSIC Men's Field Athlete of the Week on 1-25-11 after winning weight throw at Wildcat Open on 1-22-11 with mark of 63' 3/4"...placed second in weight throw at NSIC Indoor Championships with top throw of 65' 5". 

Joins Wayne State track and field program at semester break

Before Wayne State: Attended Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin and graduated Cum Laude in December, 2010 with degree in mathematics...played two years of football in 2007 and 2008 as an offensive lineman...in 2010 indoor season, set new school record in 35 pound weight throw with mark of 60' 1 3/4"...placed fourth in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Indoor Championships and qualified for NCAA Division III Indoor Nationals...in 2010 outdoor season, threw a personal best 187'3" in hammer throw, an automatic NCAA Div. III qualifying mark.

High School: Did not participate in high school track and field...was a two-year letterwinner in football and wrestling...excelled academically, earning First Team Academic All-State honors.

Personal: Born March 8, 1989...father Matt Bunchek was a three year football letterwinner at Purdue University from 1979-1981...working on master's degree in exercise science.
