2011 Outdoor: Qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Nationals in the 3,000 meter steeplechase...made the finals in the event, placing 12th with at time of 9:11.20...named NSIC Men's Track Athlete of the Year after winning two events and placing second in another at NSIC Championships...took first in the 10,000 meter run (31:55.90) and 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:25.77) and was second in the 5,000 meter run (15:41.79)...set three new school records during the season...won the 10,000 meter run at the Kansas Relays with a season best time of 30:22.16...named to the NSIC Spring All-Academic Team.
2011 Indoor: Earned All-Conference honors in three events at the NSIC Championships in Bemidji, Minnesota Feb. 25-26...won the 5,000 meter run with a new NSIC meet record time of 14:47.55...placed second in the 3,000 meter run (8:40.30) and third in the one mile run (4:18.48)...won the one mile run with a new school record time of 4:12.86 at UNL Tuneup Open on 2-18-11...also set new school record in 3,000 meter run 2-4-11 with time of 8:31.51 at Sevigne Husker Invite which led to NSIC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors on 2-7-11...named to the NSIC Winter All-Academic Team.
2010 Outdoor: Placed in two events at the NSIC Championships in Moorhead, Minnesota, finishing third in the 10,000 meter run (32:02.97) and earning a sixth place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 9:39.49...also competed in 5,000 meter run and was 20th overall at 15:51.50...had season-best time of 9:25.61 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the UW-LaCrosse Last Chance Qualifier on 5-14-10.
2010 Indoor: Finished 10th in the 3000 meter run (9:02.22) and 12th in the 5000 meter run (15:47.38) at NSIC Indoor Championships...ran season best time of 8:54.52 in the 3000 meter run at Nebraska Tuneup Open on 2-19-10...had second place finish in one mile run at USD John Dalton Open on 2-6-10 with time of 4:32.49...ran leg on new school record 4 x one mile relay team with time of 18:22.32 on 2/13/10 at the Wildcat Open...one of six Wildcats named to NSIC Winter All Academic Team.
2009 Outdoor: Ran in three events at the NSIC Championships in Wayne on May 8-9...placed sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with time of 9:47.75...was 12th in the 10,000 meter run (34:16.99) and was 19th in 5,000 meter run with time of 16:22.67...won the 1,500 meter run at WSC/South Dakota dual on April 28th with time of 4:07.22...ran season-best time of 9:42.71 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at Sioux City Relays on April 18th to place fourth...also finished eighth in 10,000 meter run at Sioux City Relays with time of 34:08.31.
2009 Indoor: Competed in the 5,000 meter run at the NSIC Indoor Championships and was 14th with time of 15:54.69...took second in the 3,000 meter run at the Derek Miles USD Open on 12-10-08 with time of 9:08.17...was second in the 1,000 meter run with season-best time of 2:37.59 at the Minnesota State Open on 1-31-09...ran season-best time of 9:02.23 in the 3,000 meter run on 1-17-09 at UNL Holiday Inn Invitational.
2008 Outdoor: Placed fifth in two events at the NSIC Outdoor Championships in Wayne on May 9-10, 2008, finishing fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:01.12) and fifth in the 5,000 meter run in the wind and rain on May 10 in a time of 16:10.68...also competed in the 10,000 meter run and finished in 13th place at 35:37.84.
2008 Indoor: Just missed placing in the one mile run at the NSIC Indoor Championships in Bemidji, Minnesota, finishing seventh at 4:36.82...also competed in the 5,000 meter run and took 15th in 17:14.85...ran season-best time of 9:12.79 in the 3,000 meter run at the Prairie Wolf Open in Lincoln on 2-22-08...won the one mile run (4:38.89) at the WSC Wildcat Open on 2-9-08.
High School: Kern is a graduate of Cedar Bluffs High School and won two state titles as a senior at the 2007 Class D State Track Meet, winning the 1600 meter run (4:36.22) and the 3200 meter run (10:05.57)...just missed winning medals as a junior, taking seventh in the 1600 (4:44.12) and seventh in the 3200 (10:34.61).
