Wayne State College head women's soccer coach Molly Grisham today announced that two more student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to attend Wayne State College and play soccer for the Wildcats in the 2010 season. Audrey Asplund of New Castle, Colorado and Norma Volkmer of Lincoln, Nebraska are the latest student athletes to sign with Wayne State College, joining Macy Hagen of Bellevue, Nebraska, Kayli Hopper of Norfolk, Nebraska, Kelly Lange of Omaha, Nebraska and Ryan Wells of Arlington, Texas as members of the 2010 Wildcat women's soccer recruiting class.
Adurey Asplund is a 5-4 midfielder/forward from Coal Ridge High School in New Castle, Colorado. She is a four-year starter that helped Coal Ridge High School to an unbeaten regular season in 2009 and a berth in the Colorado Class 3A State Tournament. Asplund scored eight goals in 2009 and was a Second Team All-State selection to go with Western Slope League All-Conference honors the last two seasons. Asplund scored 20 goals in the last three seasons with nine assists and was a team captain in 2009.
“Audrey will be a very positive addition to our team,” said Coach Grisham. Her familiarity with our system, work ethic and field vision will all be great assets to our team. On her visit, Audrey made a positive impression on the players and coaching staff and we believe she is exactly the kind of person we want to build our program around.”
Norma Volkmer is a 5-2 defender from Lincoln Pius X High School where she is a three year starter and letter winner. Last spring, she helped Pius X HS reach the Class B girls semi-finals while earning honorable mention All-State honors to go with Academic All-State accolades.
“Norma has the potential to make an impact in our midfield or backline very early in her career,” remarked Grisham. “She is a soccer junkie and her experience and knowledge will serve her well as she makes the transition to the college game. Her style of play is well suited for our system.”
Grisham expects to sign several more players in the upcoming weeks of the 2010 signing period.
