NSIC women's soccer preseason coaches poll release
The Wayne State College women's soccer team was picked to finish 12th in the Northern Sun Conference preseason coaches poll released Wednesday morning by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota. The Wildcats received a total of 33 points in voting conducted by league coaches while senior co-captains Mikayla Comba and Emily Walker were selected as Wayne State Players to Watch in the NSIC this season.
Winona State, who has won six straight NSIC regular season championships, was tabbed the league favorite by head coaches with nine first place votes and 162 points. Minnesota State was second with two first place votes and 152 points followed by Minnesota Duluth in third with three first place votes and 150 points. St. Cloud State (134 points) and Mary (111 points) round out the top five. Augustana and Bemidji State tied for sixth with 104 points followed by Northern State (88), Upper Iowa (75) and Concordia-St. Paul (67) in the top 10. MSU Moorhead (45), Wayne State, Southwest Minnesota State (25) and Minnesota, Crookston (24) conclude the 2010 NSIC preseason coaches poll for women's soccer.
Comba, a senior midfielder from Millard South, was an NSIC honorable mention selection last season and has started all but one game in her three year Wildcat career entering her senior season. Walker notched three shutouts last season in goal for the Wildcats, posting a 2.34 goals against average. She tied for first in NSIC games averaging 7.46 saves per contest for the Wildcats.
Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the 14-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Wildcats finished the 2009 season with a record of 4-15-1 overall and 1-11-1 in the Northern Sun Conference. Wayne State College opens the 2010 season at home on Thursday, August 26 against Nebraska-Kearney starting at 4:00 p.m.
