Upper Iowa tops WSC 4-1 in NSIC women's soccer

Upper Iowa's Amy Campbell scored three second half goals to lead the Peacocks in a 4-1 NSIC women's soccer win over Wayne State Sunday in Wayne.  UIU is now 9-6-1 overall and 3-1-1 in league play with the win while Wayne State slips to 0-12-2 overall and 0-6 in the NSIC.

Wayne State opened the scoring early as senior forward Gena Romano scored on a breakaway goal just 1:44 into the contest, putting the Wildcats in front 1-0.  However, Upper Iowa responded less than one minute later when Jennifer Lee scored on a header in front of the goal at the 2:40 mark to even the score at 1-1.  The score stayed that way until the 59th minute when Amy Campbell scored the first of her three goals to put the Peacocks ahead 2-1.  Campbell added goals at the 63:02 mark and 68:25 mark to give Upper Iowa the 4-1 win.

Upper Iowa outshot Wayne State 16-7 in the contest, including 11-3 in shots on goal.  UIU goalkeeper Sarah Hiatt recorded two saves while allowing one goal to earn the win.  WSC goalkeepers Emily Walker and Rachel Fuchs each played one half for the Wildcats as Walker allowed one goal in the first half with five saves while Fuchs was charged with three goals while making two saves in the second half.

WSC will play at St. Cloud State next Saturday at 4:00 p.m., then visit Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
