Northwest Missouri State edged Wayne State 2-1 in non-conference women's college soccer played Tuesday afternoon in Maryville, Missouri. The host Bearcats won their first game of the year, improving to 1-5, while WSC slipped to 0-4-2 overall.
NWMSU opened the scoring in the ninth minute on a goal by Amanda Deml to take a 1-0 lead. Wayne State tied the contest at the 33:08 mark on a Tiffani Kellerman goal, her first of the season, off an assist from Sara Schwieger. However, early in the second half, Northwest Missouri State's Krista Obley scored to give the Bearcats a 2-1 win over Wayne State.
Northwest Missouri State held a commanding edge in shots over the Wildcats, 23-4, including 13-2 in shots on goal. Wildcat goalkeeper Emily Walker was credited with 10 saves in the loss for Wayne State.
The Wildcats hit the road this weekend, visiting Winona State Saturday and Upper Iowa on Sunday.
