#24 Minnesota Duluth downs WSC women's soccer 5-1

            24th-ranked Minnesota Duluth defeated Wayne State 5-1 in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer action Friday night at Malosky Stadium in Duluth, Minnesota. The win makes the Bulldogs 12-2-2 overall and 10-1-1 in the NSIC and the loss makes the Wildcats 4-14-1 and 1-10-1 in the NSIC.

            The Bulldogs were led by Clare Dahmen and Leah Kramer who each scored two goals for Minnesota Duluth. Dahmen scored the first two goals for UMD and Kramer scored the last two goals. Becky Anderson added a goal for UMD. Senior captain Valerie Robinson scored her seventh goal of the season for the Wildcats to cut the Bulldogs lead to 2-1 at the half.

            Wayne State was led offensively by Kayleen Loveless, Tiffani Kellerman and Robinson who each had shots for the Wildcats. Goalkeeper Emily Walker faced a season high 34 shots and made a season- high 15 saves.

            UMD was led by Dahmen who had five shots on goal and Reegan Lloyd added three shots on goal for the Bulldogs.

            Minnesota Duluth had 34 shots on the night with 20 of the shots reaching goal. UMD also held a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks.

            Wayne State will close out the 2009 season Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in a Northern Sun Conference contest at Bemidji State.
