MSU Moorhead 3 #15 Wayne State 1
MSU Moorhead rallied for a 3-1 Northern Sun Conference volleyball win over 15th-ranked Wayne State College Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, Minnesota. After WSC won the first set 25-19, the host Dragons came back for 26-24, 25-22 and 25-20 set wins over the Wildcats to win the match 3-1. Wayne State is now 28-7 overall and finishes NSIC play at 16-4 while MSU Moorhead is now 21-12 and 11-9 in league play.
The match was a defensive battle at MSU Moorhead outhit WSC .175-.122 and the Dragons had 95 digs to 84 for Wayne State. MSUM also had 60 kills in the win to just 47 for the Wildcats.
Sophomore outside hitter Tali Fredrickson led Wayne State with 13 kills and 14 digs, her 15th double-double of the season. Junior middle hitter Jennifer Hefner finished with 11 kills and five blocks while Mindy Moody accounted for 10 kills. Libero Leigh Connot had 27 digs followed by Diedra Artz with 19 and Tessa Wietfeld added 12. Artz was also credited with 40 set assists for WSC.
For MSU Moorhead, Laura Tvrdik had 18 kills followed by Heidi Lensing with 13.
Wayne State now awaits word on a likely selection to the NCAA Division II National Tournament with the selection show taking place Sunday evening. The Wildcats entered the final weekend of the season ranked fourth in the Central Region with the top eight teams advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
